Steve Courtney (SteveFX): Hello, I’m an Australian special effects designer, supervisor, and engineer with extensive experience across feature films, television, commercials, theme parks, and live entertainment.

As owner of FX Illusions (FXI), I specialise in the design, engineering, construction, and execution of complex practical and mechanical effects, including fire and pyrotechnics, atmospheric effects, action vehicles, stunt rigging equipment, specialty fabrication, theatrical illusions, theme park rides, shows, and attractions.

My expertise spans the complete production process, from script breakdowns, concept development and engineering design through budgeting, reporting, fabrication, testing and on-set supervision. I lead specialist crews across all special effects, armoury, action vehicles, engineering and construction disciplines.

Known for practical, quick, and accurate problem-solving and the ability to deliver technically demanding effects under tight production schedules, I combine creative thinking with engineering precision to bring complex screen and live-action concepts to reality on time and on budget. I primarily have experience editing for a wide variety of digital content, including advertisements for social platforms, game trailers and personal projects.
I have a lot of experience using Adobe premiere pro and I am currently learning Da Vinci Resolve.

I have worked on a number of short films as many different roles including; sound recordist and boom operator, lighting assist, runner, BTS, Camera Assist, and as an Extra when needed! Always bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn with me to any film set I work on.

I find myself performing my best when carrying out specific orders and tasks, so ideally I’d like to get more experience and knowledge working as an assistant in any roles I can, as that will allow me to develop my skillset and grow more competent as a crewmember.

Currently, I am working as a General Team Member and Solo On-Site Operator for Skylighter Fireworks, which I joined to increase knowledge of pyrotechnics to further film skillset. Have experience safely setting up and operating fireworks displays and flame pillars.
