Rob Hislop is a Brisbane-based composer specialising in music for film and musical theatre. He holds a dual Bachelor of Science and Arts (Physics and Music) and an Honours Class IIA degree in Physics from the University of Queensland and a Master of Arts in Screen: Music from the Australian Film Television and Radio School, where he developed a rigorous approach to the craft of composing for screen.
With over 20 screen and stage credits, Rob has scored drama, documentary, and experimental short films, with work screened at SXSW Sydney, the Gold Coast Film Festival, and the Golden State Film Festival.
His compositional voice draws on a broad palette, from orchestral and jazz to rock and electronic, shaped by a deep engagement with how music functions emotionally and structurally within a narrative.
Alongside his screen work, Rob is an active musical theatre writer, currently developing original works that explore Australian history and identity. Rob is experienced in collaborating closely with directors and producers, working to screen, and delivering scores within tight post-production timelines. He is available for short film, feature, and stage projects.
