I was boom operator and sound recordist on the Screen Queensland FISS Program, Sound Team, Commercial/Drama, Brisbane, QLD.
Also Outgoing – Sound Recordist/Boom Operator, Short Film, Brisbane, QLD and AtoZ Productions – Sound Recordist/Boom Operator, Horror short film and Crime short film.
My growing experience for boom operating is examining the room and placing not only the microphone but myself in the prime position to catch the clearest sound for the scene/shot. I also train my shoulders to carry the weight of the boom, practicing short lengths to long 5m lengths. I have gathered the adequate positioning of the boom pole to ensure I can hold it for the required length of a shot.
As for sound recording, my professional experience lies within radio mic placement, and pursuing the clearest audio through any type of costuming.
I’ve been shown how to properly maintain gear, and keep ahead of batteries, also through the procedures of a typical setup and packdown, handing out IFB’s and labeling which clients have which numbered IFB or radio mics to ensure by the end of the day all gear is safely collected and packed away.
Also, had the pleasure to work with leading mixers such as the 664 sound mixer or the mixpre 10, had the opportunity to operate a sound cart, and shown the process of setup, including the Shark Fin antennas.
