Colin Larsen is an Australian cinematographer and filmmaker with more than 26 years’ experience across film and television, and more than two decades behind the camera.
His career has taken him throughout Australia and internationally, working across feature films, television drama, documentary, factual entertainment, travel, wildlife, reality television, live broadcast, commercials and independent productions.
Colin’s path to cinematography was built from the ground up. Beginning in lighting and gripping before moving professionally into camera, he developed a deep understanding of how light, movement, composition and technology work together to serve a story. That foundation continues to shape his approach today — combining traditional cinematographic craft with contemporary camera technology and the ability to work instinctively in fast-moving and unpredictable environments.
His credits span major international productions and long-running television formats, including work associated with Pirates of the Caribbean, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Crocodile Hunter, Sea Patrol, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Rock Island Mysteries and In Limbo, alongside extensive documentary, travel and international location work.
Equally at home within a large production unit or working with a small crew in remote locations, Colin’s experience extends across cinematography, camera operation, lighting, grip, jib, remote-head, underwater and drone production.
Documentary and location filmmaking have become an increasingly important part of his creative work. Through productions including Travel Wild TV and the ENDANGERED series, Colin has filmed in extraordinary environments around the world, developing a particular passion for stories about wildlife, conservation, people and the natural world.
For Colin, cinematography has never been simply about capturing beautiful pictures. It’s about recognising the moment, understanding the story — and knowing how to put an audience inside it.
After more than a quarter of a century in the industry, that remains both his craft and his passion.
Colin is a full member of the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS).
